Reporting straight from Milan is our friend Linda from Live Loud Girl! She’s got the amazing chance to visit the largest and most inspirational design fair, the Salone del Mobile, for Milan Design Week 2016 which is certainly the most exciting week for designers. And we’re equally psyched she’s walking us through the beautiful city which has transformed into one giant creative space for this event! Hear it from Linda, live from Milan..

“It’s Design Week in Milan. A first time for us at Salone del Mobile,a we sure feel like kids in a candy store! This is absolutely the most inspiring week of the year for designers and stylists. The entire city changes into one big creative space.”

“We visited many established and upcoming brands in stunning stands, some of them launching new products, others surprising us with a journey through their creative minds. Talking about trends, there is definitely no getting around the new trend in town. While we have been enjoying a lot of soft tones and monochrome for quite some time now, this season is all about earthy tones — a trend that walked straight from the runway into the realms of interior decor. The warmer colours pay an homage the beauty of natural resources and earthy tones, bringing back the focus on creating tranquil spaces with calming colours. Brands like Muuto&TraditionRolf BenzHay and new kids on the block like Harto, used these colors as a central theme in their newest collections.”

“In the neighbourhood Ventura Lambrate, we visited ‘Structure‘, a collaboration between Jotun and 26 of the finest Norwegian young designers. This exposition aims to bring together the best of contemporary Norwegian creativity to the general public and possible manufacturers. The minimalistic space is filled with a selection of elegant designs anchoring backdrops of the newly launched Jotun colors  like  ‘structure’, ‘sky pink’, and ‘seaweed’. Earthy colours were found here yet again, along with some of our favorite designs such as the ceramic lights by Noidoi, the ceramic range by Ann Kristin Einarsen and the rusty red chair by Runa Klock.”

“A bit further down the streets of Ventura Lambrate we found a garage converted into an art gallery ‘The Journey’ focuses on designers with one-of-a-kind objects or small series creations. What lured us in was definitely the Nani bench by Studio Joa Herrenknecht from Berlin which used salmon leather in the most breathtaking blue. Another stunner is the handcrafted Schoemig Porzellan. Every single piece is thrown and decorated by hand. The grid is very subtle, the porcelain very delicate and yet totally meant for everyday use.”

“In Brera, another area of the city that is also participating in Design Week, we visited the Danish brand Hay. This pop-up shop takes the principles of concept store literally to another level! Using an old swimming pool hall, this is the largest exhibition they have ever had at a design fair. It is not just their furniture, accessories and new range of lights from Wrong London this time – Hay actually created a full experiential space! A beautiful bar offers visitors coffee, juices and salads for those who are hungry for more than just design.”

“Many pit stops were required though to be able to digest all the creativity that bedazzled us. Luckily Milan also happens to be the place that facilitates that.

Now we are no rookies anymore but experienced design week wanderers. Milan gave us enough inspiration to keep us going until next year.”

Such an amazing sharing. While we can’t be there, it sure feels a lot like we were! Thanks for the guest contribution Linda!
